NADH

Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide is an activated form of the B vitamin niacin. It is a coenzyme that helps generation of ATP (Adenosine Tri Phosphate) from metabolism of sugars, amino acids and fats in the Krebs cycle. ATP is the energy currency of the cell. It is better taken on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning. It is always better to start with a low dosage and notice oneself. 5 mg may be a helpful sustaining amount.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine

Carnitine is a vitamin like substance resembling B vitamin family and is often called vitamin BT. It is a conditionally essential nutrient, meaning body can manufacture it, but will need external help under conditions such as adrenal exhaustion. Fat is an efficient fuel for body to burn and gain energy from and Carnitine makes it happen by shuttling fatty acids across cell’s cytoplasm and membrane of the mitochondria to the interior of the mitochondria where oxidation occurs i.e. the fat burning. Without carnitine, the fatty acids have difficulty penetrating the membrane of the mitochondria resulting in a decreased rate of fat utilization and energy production. A vegetarian diet is typically low in L-lysine and L-methionine which are needed for biosynthesis of L-carnitine.

Acetyl-L-Carnitine is a compound containing acetic acid and L-Carnitine and plays a special role due to it’s easy incorporation into various biological processes including mental cognition that may ease the fatigue a bit.

500 mg to 1000 mg after 30 to 45 minutes of NADH in the morning gives needed boost to energy cycle. Twinlab, GNC, Swanson, Jarrow Formulas, Solgar, Carlson and Vitacost carry Acetyl-L-Carnitine.

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10)

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) also known as ubiquinone is a vitamin like substance. By definition, Vitamins are essential in normal body functioning acting as coenzymes or precursors to coenzymes which are naturally present in foods or are also synthesized in the body. CoQ10 fits into this category as it is found naturally in small amounts in a variety of foods and is also synthesized in all tissues. CoQ10 acts as coenzyme for three mitochondrial enzymes involved in the production of ATP, which the energy currency of the cell. Quinone ring of the ubiquinone participates in electron and proton transfer functions which are sustainance of life. CoQ10’s biosynthesis requires several vitamins and trace elements along with an amino acid called tyrosine. This process might be compromised or not at optimal levels in people with adrenal exhaustion and chronic fatigue.

Starting with 60 mg - 120 mg and going to the desired levels of up to 240 mg may make significant differences in energy levels. Twinlab, GNC, Swanson, Jarrow Formulas, Solgar, Carlson, Source Naturals and Vitacost carry CoQ10.
